The process of cooking generates oily & spicy fume. Inhaling such harmful gases every day can affect health. Thankfully, kitchen chimneys are there to expel these smokes out and refresh the kitchen. No doubt, chimneys are essential kitchen appliances, especially for the modern-day open kitchen, which lacks other alternatives to expel the pollutant out of the kitchen and house. But what if your chimney stops working or gives some trouble while working? Here is the solution to handle some of the common chimney problems. While most of the time you yourself would be able to fix these problems but sometimes you need to call a mechanic.
Common Chimney Problems and Solutions
It is natural to get annoyed if your kitchen chimney hood is not working properly or creating problems. To help you troubleshoot your day-to-day problems while handling kitchen chimneys, we have listed a few common chimney problems and their solution.
1. Chimney Creating Noise Pollution
If your chimney hood is making too much noise, it might be due to the high suction power. Chimneys are installed with a powerful blower attached to a motor that sucks up the smoke. Normally a chimney with higher suction power creates more noise.
But there could be other reasons, too, such as clogged filters. The oil and greasy particles get stuck to the filters; they get blocked and create noise if they are not cleaned regularly. So, if you feel your chimney is making noise more than the regular, it can be an alarm for filter cleaning.
So, it is always advisable to check the filters in case of excessive noise. If they are dirty and clogged, clean them, or if needed, replace them with the new one. You can instantly feel the reduction in the noise.
However, if you have a ducted chimney, the exasperated noise can be due to the long duct length and numerous bends. Both of these things can restrict the exhausted force leading to high noise. On inspection, if you find that the duct length or bends are leading to the noise, then the only solution is a reduction in the length or the number of bends.
2. Low Suction Force
One of the most common chimney problems is the low suction force. It can be due to various reasons such as low-speed selection, the inadequate distance between the chimney and the stove, jammed filter, blocked PVC cowl, or damaged motor.
So, if there is a low suction force, you have first to inspect the speed selected on the panel. If you realize this is the problem, increase the panel’s suction power. But, if you do not find any improvement, check the filters and PVC cowl. If required, clean them or replace them.
If none of these can solve the problem, try to reduce the chimney height and get the motor checked by an expert. It might be there is a need for a change of motor.
3. Touch/ Push Button Control Panel Not Working
At times, the touch and push-button do not work. This could happen if the touch button is not activated. Once your kitchen chimney is installed and ready to use, you have to activate these buttons. Depending upon the model and the brand of the chimney, the activation process varies. The best way is to first read the manual and do as suggested in it.
However, if the buttons are activated and the panel is not working, there is some malfunctioning. For this, you will require an expert inspection and correction.
4. Fan And Light not working
Another very common chimney problem that you may face is if the light bulb is burned out, the fan’s blades are jammed, the motor is not working, or as simple as the power cord is not connected. So, if your chimney’s fan or light is not working, first check the power chord and switch and fix the related problem.
However, if there is no problem related to the cord or power, try to change the bulb. If you still face the issue, it is better to call a professional to inspect the bulb, blades, and motor.
5. Heavy vibration
If you feel that your chimney hood is vibrating more, fan blades might have got damaged. The other reason for this is the loose mounting of the blower motor. You will need an expert to make the necessary corrections for any of the two cases.
6. No Display on the Chimney
This problem is faced when the adequate power supply is not reaching the chimney, or the power cord has been damaged. So, if you see no display on your chimney panel, check the power cords, plug, and switchboard your chimney is connected to and do the necessary corrections.
7. Blockages
Blockages are another common chimney problems that you can witness. There are numerous things that can cause obstruction or blockage to your chimney. This also includes the obstruction of the chimney draft. In case your chimney is not installed at a sufficient height, the ambient updraft will obstruct the flow of the smoke from going up of the chimney as required. Negative air pressure caused by a too airtight house can draw the smoke into the home. Having a chimney blockage is quite dangerous as it can result in toxic fumes like carbon monoxides spreading into your home.
The Bottom-line
Chimney plays an important role in our day-to-day kitchen work. So if it works unusually, it can be tiring and exhausting. Above are just a few of the common chimney problems you can face that can be easily dealt with time and again. Not all the issues are tough to handle. Some basic errors can be inspected and instantly corrected without the help of an expert. However, if you feel the need for expert recommendations, better to connect with the customer care of the company and call the expert.
